Literary reportage of Petra Procházková: The execution is a public matter and Adžamal

The bachelor thesis deals with the literary reports of Petra Procházková The execution is a public matter and Adžamal. Its goal is to analyze both texts and find in them the signs of literary reportage. The work also attempts to outline the reasons that lead to the fact that literary reportage is almost non-existent in the Czech Republic. The first chapter focuses on the characteristics of the reporting genre, its origin and development. It also deals with fiction and objectivity in reportage texts. The second chapter briefly describes the current state of written reportage in Czech print and online media. The third chapter is dedicated to literary reportage, attempts to define it, outlines the phenomenon of the Polish school of reportage and also touches on the current state of literary-journalistic texts in the Czech Republic. The second part of the thesis begins with a chapter on the life of reporter and humanitarian worker Petra Procházková. The fifth chapter focuses on the description of the context of the creation of her literary reports, specifically on the situation in Chechnya (where The execution is a public matter takes place) and Afghanistan (the scene of Adžamal) at the beginning of the 21st century. Literary Reportage with a Focus on the Theme of the Loss of Loved Ones in Selected Works

This diploma thesis is devoted to selected literary reportages focusing on the theme of the loss of a loved one. The genre which does not properly belong to either fiction or non-fiction has been growing in popularity in recent years, yet it is still a vague term for many. The thesis approaches the phenomenon of literary reportage, characterizes it and presents its main features. It also focuses on the history of Polish reportage as well as the current state of the Polish school of reportage in connection with the authors of selected works. Subsequently, it also provides a theoretical basis for the loss of a loved one using professional publications. In the second part of the thesis, the focus is on an interpretation of selected works - Ganbare! Workshops on Dying (2016, translated in 2017) by Katarzyna Boni, Like Eating a Stone (2002, translated in 2017) by Wojciech Tochman and Two Sisters (2016, translated in 2018) by Åsne Seierstad concentrating on the concept of loss of loved ones, and finally the thesis is devoted to a mutual comparison of three reportages to demonstrate the way of writing about the loss of a beloved person.
Narrative methods in literary reportages of Wojciech Tochman

In this thesis I deal with three literary reportages from the collection Pánbůh zaplať by the Polish journalist and writer Wojciech Tochman who represents the Polish School of Reportage. These are the reportages Člověk, který vstal z kolejí, Vzteklý pes and Mojžíšův keř. I focus on what kind of narrative techniques Tochman uses in the process of writing reportages, what kind of function they have and if the usage of these narrative techniques influences the trustworthiness of a literary reportage. In the case studies I analyze every reportage with the help of a one chosen narrative technique. In the reportage Člověk, který vstal z kolejí I focus on the narrative gaps, in Vzteklý pes I deal with the usage of focalisation and in Mojžíšův keř is the main focus the storytelling through characters. Literary analyses show that the narrative techniques are used for better coherence and impresivness of Tochman's texts. These techniques help to express experiences of described characters and allow an independent interpretation to the reader. They are also used as references to important social phenomenona which enable to Tochman to bring universal testimony about the subjects of literary reportages. Literary reportage of Miroslav Holub and Jiří Mucha inspired by the travelling in the USA in 60's of 20th century

This thesis focuses on the literary reportages of Miroslav Holub and Jiří Mucha, who were inspired in their literary works by their travels in the United States during the sixties of the 20th century. The two main analysed texts are Černý a bílý New York by Jiří Mucha and Anděl na kolečkách by Miroslav Holub. The first chapter puts into context the historical and cultural characteristics of the first half of the sixties, when both reportages were published. The next chapter explains the origin and development of the literary genre of literary reportages. The next one is a biographical chapter about the authors with short examinations of their literary style. The last chapter analyses the reportages and compares the cultural and social atmosphere of the US with the situation in Czechoslovakia, which are talked about in the texts. It also compares the stylistical characteristics of the two authors. This thesis comes to the conclusion that Mucha focuses on communities, arts and the cultural scene, while Holub's focus has a wider scope incorporating also modern civilization, science and technology and also warns against the future. The author' literary styles are influenced by their life experiences and careers.
Ota Pavel's journalistic activity in years 1956 - 1964

Ota Pavel is known for his belles-lettres, particularly short tales with autobiographical motives. This bachelor thesis aims to point out Pavel's journalistic activity in periodicals, that preceded his literary career. The theoretical segment aims to provide Pavel's contextual portrait in terms of his journalistic activity and mental illness. Practical part contains analysis of Pavel's articles published in the periodicals Stadion and Ceskoslovensky vojak during the limited period. Original literary reportage and its theoretical definition

This thesis compiles the phenomenon of literary reportage, also known as the Polish School of Reportage. In theoretical level, it compares literary reportage with conventional reportage and including this key differences defines the genre. It also follows history of reportage by connecting it with literary and journalistic tradition, while focusing on specific development in Poland. Examples of contemporary literary reportage in Poland and in the Czech Republic are included as well. Furthermore, the thesis covers the question of fiction and fictional narrative in the genre, it applies theoretical knowledge of narratology and considers the significance of fiction in literary reportage. The second part of the thesis is original reportage picturing the return of wolves into Czech nature.
Havel's legacy at Ostrovní 13 (literary reportage)

This thesis presents the Václav Havel Library and the legacy of the person whose name it holds in the form of the literary reportage. In the theoretical part it defines the literary reportage genre. Firstly it describes the historical development of the reportage, focusing on the Czech and Polish journalistic and literary enviroment. Then, in contrast with the Czech tradition, it defines the specific genre that is the Polish literary reportage, focusing in more detail on the types of narrators and the language it uses. In the practical part the theoretical knowledge is being implemented in the form of an original literary reportage, which presents the environment and the functioning of the Václav Havel Library. It presents an unique institution that was modeled on the American presidential libraries for the purpose of archiving and publishing the works of Václav Havel and related materials, as well as organising cultural events that carry his spirit. The literary reportage Havel's legacy at Ostrovní 13 gives an interpretation of what the legacy represents, meaning in what areas we can still feel the influence of Václav Havel and what makes him an inspiration to many. Contemporary literary reportage and its evolution in the Czech republic, Poland and France

The dissertation deals with the evolution and current state of literary reportage in the Czech Republic, Poland and France. It puts literary reportage in media context with emphasis on history of the genre and its main representatives, it maps the current state of literary reportage in selected countries, authors, and themes of their texts. It analyzes the factors that affect the work of literary reporters.This thesis in its theoretical part relies on academic publications about the genre of reportage in each state in relation to Polish School of Reportage and its attributes. It also examines the usage of fictional components that affects trustworthiness of literary reportage. The practical part of the thesis is then dedicated to analysis of the reportage Spánek do oběda a zábava do rána by polish reporter Lidia Ostałowska in order to show what kind of impact literary techniques can have on form and content of reportage. To do so, it uses the method of narratological analysis and the concept of narrative gaps. In the end, the findings from the field of the genre are applied in my own authorial reportage called Nantes. Voda, plyn a oheň.
